Nagpur witnessed a massive turnout for 'Yogathon 2026', a community wellness event organized by The Times of India and Maharashtra Times to mark their anniversary celebrations and the International Day of Yoga. Held at Chitnavis Centre in Civil Lines on Saturday, the event saw hundreds of residents, including police personnel, healthcare professionals, and fitness enthusiasts, participating in a morning of collective yoga and meditation.
Police Commissioner Highlights Yoga's Role in Modern Life
Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Singal, the chief guest, emphasized that yoga is "not merely an exercise but an effective way of living a balanced life." He noted that regular practice helps individuals stay physically and mentally strong while boosting productivity and emotional stability. "In today's fast-paced life, yoga is extremely useful for stress management. Every citizen should incorporate yoga into daily life to build a healthier society," Singal said.
Healthcare Leaders Stress Consistency Over Perfection
Nita Rajwar, chief operating officer of HCG Cancer Centre, addressed participants, highlighting the importance of consistency. "Yoga does not demand perfection, it demands continuity. Even a few minutes every day can significantly improve physical and mental health. Let us pledge to adopt yoga for a healthier and happier life," she stated.
Expert Guidance and Community Spirit
Participants performed various yoga postures, pranayama, and meditation exercises under the guidance of instructors Riya and Bhushan Take. The event also aimed to spread awareness about preventive healthcare and holistic living. Attendees described the program as energizing and socially uplifting. "Practising yoga with hundreds of people created a completely different energy. Such initiatives certainly help spread awareness about health and fitness," participant Nana Posage said.
Another participant, Amol Patil, shared that the event offered a meaningful break from daily stress. "It helped me experience the importance of yoga firsthand. I have now resolved to practise yoga regularly," he said.
Free Cancer Screening Camp Held Alongside
In addition to yoga, a free cancer screening camp was organized by HCG Cancer Centre during the event, providing attendees with access to preventive healthcare services.
