UP to engage 1.42 crore students in Yoga Day celebrations

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to host grand International Yoga Day celebrations, aiming to engage approximately 1.42 crore students from 1.32 lakh Parishadiya Vidyalayas (primary schools) across the state. In addition, over 78,000 girls from 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas will participate in yoga activities, according to officials.

Collective Yoga Sessions Across Schools

Officials confirmed that collective yoga sessions will be held in schools across the state on Sunday, with participation from students, teachers, Shiksha Mitras (education volunteers), instructors, and parents. The Basic Education Department has appointed Director of Education (Basic), Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi, as the nodal officer responsible for monitoring and coordinating the programme.

The department has completed all preparations for the event. Following directives from the Ministry of AYUSH and the Ministry of Education, guidelines have been issued to divisional assistant directors, district basic education officers, and block education officers to ensure smooth execution.

Programme Details and Objectives

Schools will organize yoga sessions, pranayama exercises, and awareness programmes. Students will be educated about the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. The initiative also encourages participation from parents and local communities to foster a broader impact.

The programme aims to spread awareness about yoga and instill healthy habits among children, aligning with the national focus on holistic well-being.
