Chandigarh Plans Fitness, Yoga Hub at Leisure Valley

The Chandigarh Union Territory administration is actively examining comprehensive plans to introduce state-of-the-art fitness, yoga, wellness, and mind-body healing facilities at the popular Leisure Valley in Sector 10. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the green space into a holistic health and recreation hub for residents.

Administrative Inspection and Immediate Actions

UT Home Secretary Mandip Singh Brar conducted a detailed inspection of Leisure Valley on Monday to thoroughly review its current condition, maintenance status, and available public amenities. During his visit, Brar carefully assessed the existing walking and jogging tracks, identifying areas that require urgent attention.

Repair Work and Facility Planning

Brar directed the engineering department to carry out immediate repair work on stretches of the tracks that need maintenance. He emphasized the importance of creating safe and accessible pathways for walkers and joggers who frequent the valley.

The home secretary specifically asked various departments to explore multiple options for incorporating dedicated yoga and exercise facilities within the Leisure Valley complex. This strategic move aims to promote health-focused recreational use of the space, encouraging residents to engage in physical activities amidst natural surroundings.

Cafeteria Proposal and Environmental Considerations

In addition to fitness facilities, Brar instructed officials to study the feasibility of setting up a well-designed cafeteria within the premises. He stressed the importance of ensuring proper cleanliness standards and implementing green safeguards to maintain the ecological balance of the area.

Design Proposal and Integration Plans

The Chandigarh College of Architecture has been officially tasked with preparing a comprehensive design proposal within 15 days. This proposal will creatively integrate the new fitness, yoga, and wellness features while carefully preserving the existing walking trails and outdoor equipment.

The design will align with the master plan vision of Leisure Valley as an important green lung of the city, ensuring that new developments complement rather than compromise the natural environment. The plan aims to create a harmonious balance between recreational infrastructure and ecological preservation.

Key Officials Present During Inspection

Several senior officials accompanied Home Secretary Brar during the inspection, including Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, Chief Engineer C B Ojha, Chief Architect Rajiv Kumar Mehta, and CCA Principal Dr. Sangeeta Bagga. Their collective expertise will contribute to the successful implementation of the proposed facilities.

Broader Infrastructure Improvement Goals

A UT spokesperson clarified that this inspection and planning initiative is part of ongoing efforts to systematically improve public infrastructure and enhance recreational spaces across Chandigarh. The administration recognizes the growing need for quality outdoor facilities that promote both physical and mental well-being among citizens.

The proposed transformation of Leisure Valley represents a significant step toward creating more accessible health and wellness opportunities for Chandigarh residents, potentially setting a benchmark for similar developments in other urban green spaces.
