Belagavi Hosts Grand Bike Rally to Commemorate Vishwaguru Basavanna's Birth Anniversary
A significant and vibrant bike rally unfolded in Belagavi on Sunday, drawing immense participation to honor the birth anniversary of Vishwaguru Basavanna, Karnataka's esteemed cultural and spiritual leader. The event aimed to propagate his enduring message of social equality and communal harmony, resonating deeply with attendees from diverse backgrounds.
Inauguration and Participation Details
The rally was officially inaugurated by Gurusiddha Swamiji of Karanji Mutt, who ceremoniously flagged off the procession. More than 2,000 enthusiastic bikers took part, representing a broad spectrum of society including women, youth, children, and senior citizens from various religious communities. This diverse turnout underscored the inclusive appeal of Basavanna's philosophy, which transcends traditional boundaries.
Route and Event Significance
Covering an extensive route of over 15 kilometers across the city, the bike rally commenced at Basaveshwara Circle in Shahapur. It traversed key landmarks such as RPD Cross, Khanapur Road, Anagol, Vadagavi, Kapileshwar Bridge, Ramalinga Kind Galli, Rani Channamma Circle, Shivabasava Nagar, Ashok Nagar, and Mahantesh Nagar, culminating at the FG Halakatti Sabha Bhavan premises in Ramteerth Nagar. This journey symbolized the widespread dissemination of Basavanna's ideals throughout the community.
The rally marked the commencement of Basavanna's birth anniversary celebrations in Belagavi, with a series of programs scheduled to continue until April 26. It attracted active involvement from pro-Basava organizations and devotees belonging to different faiths, highlighting the universal relevance of his teachings.

In his address, Gurusiddha Swamiji elaborated on Basavanna's core principles, emphasizing Kayaka (dignity of labor) and Dasoha (social responsibility). He highlighted that the Panchachar (five-fold principles), Shatasthals (six-fold principles), and Ashtavarans (eight-fold principles) form the foundational tenets of the Lingayat religion. Additionally, he noted that Basavanna's vachanas serve as essential guides for leading a moral and ethical life.
The Swami praised the Anubhava Mantapa established by Basavanna, describing it as a democratic platform open to all, without restrictions based on community or caste. He affirmed that anyone who embraces Basavanna's principles is considered a Lingayat, reinforcing the inclusive nature of this spiritual tradition.
Community Engagement and Calls to Action
Sarala Hirekar, director of Basaveshwara Bank, addressed the youth, urging them to reduce time spent on mobile devices and instead actively engage in public service. She encouraged the propagation of Basavanna's principles as a means to foster social responsibility and community welfare.
The event saw participation from notable figures including former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimutt, renowned physician Dr. Ravi Patil, advocate and district president of the Jagatik Lingayat Sanghatane Basavaraju Rotti, and Veerashaiva Lingayat Mahasabha district president Ratnaprabha Bellad, along with several other community leaders.
