Chikkamagaluru's Chaitrotsava Flower Show Sets New Visitor Record

The Chaitrotsava flower show, held as part of Republic Day celebrations at the Subhash Chandra Bose district stadium in Chikkamagaluru, witnessed an overwhelming response with approximately six lakh visitors over its three-day run from Monday to Wednesday. This marks a significant increase from last year's attendance of 3.5 lakh, highlighting the event's growing popularity and appeal.

Vibrant Exhibits and Tribal Art Installations

The event showcased a diverse array of attractions, including:

  • Vegetable-carved models that demonstrated intricate craftsmanship.
  • Vibrant floral displays featuring nearly 8,000 flower pots used in the designs.
  • Lantana elephant installations crafted by tribals from Mysuru district, adding a unique cultural touch.

A notable highlight was the set of four wild-elephant models placed at the entrance, displayed by the forest department, which captivated visitors with their realistic portrayal. Additionally, the Badra Bala and Naada Loka models, along with art made from waste materials, drew particular attention for their creativity and environmental message.

Engaging Activities and Government Outreach

The festival went beyond floral exhibits to include:

  1. A dog and cattle show on Tuesday that attracted major crowds, adding an interactive element to the event.
  2. Exhibits highlighting the district's key strengths, such as its reputation as the Land of Coffee, with traditional and antique models depicting local culture.
  3. Information stalls on government schemes, aimed at raising public awareness and promoting horticulture crops.
  4. A variety of food stalls offering local delicacies, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Official Appreciation and Future Goals

Deputy commissioner NM Nagaraj emphasized that the event's primary aim was to promote and raise awareness of horticulture crops in the region. He expressed appreciation for CEO Keerthana and her team for the successful conduct of the show, noting their efforts in organizing such a large-scale event. Joint director for horticulture K Mangala provided insights into the floral arrangements, underscoring the meticulous planning involved.

The record-breaking turnout not only reflects the community's enthusiasm for horticulture and cultural events but also sets a positive precedent for future editions, potentially boosting local tourism and agricultural initiatives in Chikkamagaluru.
