Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Participates in Ujjain's Rangpanchami Celebrations
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh joined thousands of residents in Ujjain on Sunday to celebrate Rangpanchami, a vibrant festival marking the culmination of Holi festivities. The day was filled with traditional rituals, cultural processions, and joyful interactions, highlighting the region's rich heritage.
Spiritual Beginnings at Mahakaleshwar Temple
The celebrations commenced with Chief Minister Yadav visiting the revered Mahakaleshwar Temple. There, he offered prayers and performed puja and abhishek of Lord Mahakal, seeking peace and prosperity for both the country and the state. This spiritual act set a solemn tone for the day's events, emphasizing the cultural significance of the festival.
Participation in Dhwaj Chal Samaroh and Gair Procession
Following the temple rituals, Yadav took part in the Mahakaleshwar Dhwaj Chal Samaroh, also known as the Shri Veerabhadra Dhwaj Chal Samaroh, held in the temple's Sabha Mandap. During this ceremony, flags of Lord Veerabhadra and Lord Mahakal, along with weapons, were worshipped. The chief minister carried the flag to the temple's kund premises, symbolizing reverence and tradition.
Speaking about the historical context, Yadav explained that in ancient Avantika, under Emperor Vikramaditya's reign, soldiers would march from their cantonments carrying victory flags and emblems in a procession through the city. "Over time, this procession came to be called Gair. This ancient tradition continues to this day and is a symbol of our cultural pride," he stated. To support this heritage, Yadav directed Collector Singh to provide a grant of Rs 1.25 lakh each to preserve and sustain traditional Gair processions in Ujjain.
Festive Joy at Tower Chowk
Later in the day, the chief minister joined the Gair procession that started from Sindhi Colony. He then proceeded to Tower Chowk, where he took to the stage and showered rose petals on the gathered crowd, playing Holi in a gentle and floral manner. Thousands of residents enthusiastically participated in the festivities, greeting Yadav warmly and adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
The event showcased a seamless blend of spirituality, tradition, and community joy, reinforcing Ujjain's cultural vibrancy under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
