In a series of heartfelt Christmas messages, prominent leaders in Goa have extended festive greetings to the people, coupling their wishes with powerful calls for peace, justice, and communal harmony in a world they describe as troubled.
Archbishop's Message of Humility and Love
Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, used his Christmas address to reflect on the current global climate. He observed that in a world which often glorifies power and strength, the true promotion of peace and justice can seem like a distant aspiration.
The Cardinal pointed to the nativity scene in Bethlehem as a source of profound inspiration. He emphasized that the child of Bethlehem carries a clear and potent message: that love, when coupled with humility, possesses the transformative power to forge a world grounded in peace, justice, and fraternity.
"May this Christmas help us to bring peace to the disturbed world, justice to the oppressed, and fraternal love to our families, neighbourhoods, and to the needy," Cardinal Ferrao stated in his prayerful wish for the season.
Chief Minister's Focus on Goa's Social Fabric
Echoing the spiritual leader's sentiments, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant characterized Christmas as a celebration of core human values. He defined the festival as one of "peace, goodwill, compassion, hope and values that strengthen the social fabric of Goa."
Sawant highlighted that the teachings of Jesus Christ continue to serve as a timeless guide, inspiring humanity to follow a path marked by kindness, humility, and selfless service to others. He urged citizens to embrace these principles not just during the festive period but consistently throughout the entire year.
"Goa has always been known for peaceful coexistence," the Chief Minister remarked, calling on people to actively nurture these cherished traditions. He encouraged promoting greater understanding, mutual respect, and unity across every section of Goan society to preserve this legacy.
"Let the spirit of Christmas remind us to live with love and harmony, and to uphold the unique bonds that make Goa a model of peaceful living," Sawant added.
A Call for Collaborative Development
Moving beyond the festive message, Chief Minister Sawant also linked the spirit of unity to the state's progress. He called upon the people of Goa to join hands with the government in its ongoing efforts to drive comprehensive development across the region.
Sawant noted that public cooperation is absolutely essential for the successful implementation of various developmental initiatives. These projects are aimed at critical areas like improving infrastructure, enhancing the quality of public services, empowering the youth, and ensuring sustainable economic growth for the state.
Adding to the chorus of greetings, Governor of Goa, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, also extended his warm Christmas wishes to all residents. He urged everyone to renew their personal commitment to embody the message of love and compassion preached by Jesus.
The Governor's message concluded with a collective vision: "Let us work together to build a Goa where peace, harmony, and unity prevail."
