Golden Temple Gold Plating Cleaning Service Commences in Amritsar
The sacred task of cleaning the gold plating at the Golden Temple in Amritsar officially began on Friday, following the offering of ardas. This significant maintenance work is being undertaken to preserve the spiritual and architectural grandeur of Harmandir Sahib, one of Sikhism's holiest sites.
SGPC Entrusts Service to Birmingham-Based Sewak Jatha
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has entrusted the cleaning service to Bhai Mahinder Singh, who serves as the head of the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This delegation underscores the global Sikh community's involvement in the upkeep of their revered shrine.
Periodic Maintenance for Preservation
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami emphasized that the washing and cleaning of the gold plating is conducted periodically to ensure its maintenance and preservation. He highlighted that this work is crucial for safeguarding the temple's iconic golden domes, which symbolize purity and divinity in Sikh tradition.
The service is being carried out voluntarily by the Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha under the leadership of Bhai Mahinder Singh, with extensive support from the Sikh sangat (community). This collaborative effort reflects the deep-seated devotion and collective responsibility of Sikhs worldwide toward their spiritual heritage.
The initiation of this cleaning work marks a moment of reverence and dedication, aligning with the principles of seva (selfless service) central to Sikhism. It ensures that the Golden Temple continues to shine as a beacon of faith and cultural pride for generations to come.
