Governor Inaugurates International Minjar Fair
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta inaugurated the historic International Minjar Fair in Chamba on Sunday, calling it a vibrant symbol of the state’s rich cultural heritage. Speaking at the event, he emphasized that festivals like Minjar preserve traditions and strengthen unity, brotherhood, and social harmony.
“Festivals like Minjar not only preserve our cultural traditions but also strengthen the bonds of unity, brotherhood and social harmony,” Gupta said. He urged the youth to stay connected with their cultural roots and take pride in India’s heritage.
Concern Over Drug Abuse
The Governor expressed concern over the growing menace of drug abuse and called for active public participation to combat it. “Public participation is the strongest weapon against drug abuse. Together, we must protect our youth and build a drug-free Himachal,” he remarked, appreciating the efforts of the Chamba Police in this direction.
Tribute to Kargil Martyrs
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Gupta paid floral tributes to three Kargil martyrs from Chamba – Ashish Thapa, Khem Raj, and Om Prakash. He administered a pledge to the gathering to uphold the ideals and sacrifices of the nation’s brave soldiers. The Governor also honored Kargil veterans and families of gallantry heroes, including Retired Colonel Ravi Vaid, Vidya Devi, Musharbu Devi, Retired Subedar Major Ashok Kumar, Havildar Milap Singh, Hem Raj, Havildar Sushil Kumar, Havildar Karan Singh, Ashwani Kumar, and Havildar Dharampal.
Spotlight on Traditional Crafts
Gupta highlighted Chamba’s globally acclaimed traditional crafts, including Chamba Rumal, Chamba Chappal, and Chamba Thal. He appreciated the artisans who continue to preserve the district’s rich artistic legacy, noting that these crafts are an integral part of Himachal’s unique identity.
