Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the annual Harbah festival at Anantnag on Sunday, offering prayers to Goddess Sidh Lakshmi and greeting devotees at the religious event. The festival, held at Teerathraj Lok Bhawan, is a significant occasion of devotion and spiritual awakening.
Historical Significance of the Shrine
Sinha recalled the ancient name of the shrine, Lokpunya, as mentioned in Kalhana’s Rajatarangini, highlighting its historical importance. The annual havan and flag-hoisting ceremony continue to revive values of devotion, service, sacrifice, patience, and social harmony, he noted.
Describing the festival as a profound occasion, Sinha said, “Every stone, every stream and every breath here reflects the immortal consciousness of our Sanatan culture and spiritual heritage, which has guided humanity for centuries on the path of truth, compassion and dharma.”

The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged the paradox of modern life, where science and technology have connected the world but also led to loneliness and social divisions. He emphasized that spiritual values must remain the foundation of society to foster unity, compassion, and mutual respect. “The Harbah festival reminds us that true devotion is reflected through service to humanity, mutual respect and selfless love,” he said.

Sinha outlined a vision for a peaceful society with three appeals. First, spiritual values should guide both individual and institutional conduct to strengthen trust and prosperity. Second, mental and spiritual well-being must receive equal importance alongside physical health in today’s fast-paced world. Third, youth should be nurtured with responsibility through selfless service and dedication to the nation.
Call to Youth: Blend Modern Education with Cultural Roots
Urging the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha called on them to remain connected with modern education as well as their cultural and spiritual roots. “True knowledge is realised through humility, and its strength becomes sacred when used in the service of others,” he said. The event underscores the administration’s focus on preserving cultural heritage while promoting contemporary development.
