Kodava Pusthaka Pathaya Initiative Launched to Boost Literature and Cultural Heritage
In a significant move to safeguard the rich cultural legacy of the Kodava community, the Kodava Sahitya Academy has officially launched the 'Kodava Pusthaka Pathaya' initiative. The program was inaugurated by Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna during a ceremony held in Virajpet, marking a pivotal step towards promoting and preserving Kodava literature and traditions through dedicated reading efforts.
Community Leaders Rally Support for Cultural Preservation
Speaking at the launch event, MLA AS Ponnanna praised the project as a commendable endeavor. He emphasized that this initiative is crucial for passing down the unique Kodava culture to future generations. Ponnanna urged community members to actively participate by establishing Kodava literature bookshelves in their homes, thereby fostering a culture of reading and learning within families.
AC Mahesh Nanaiah, the president of the Kodava Sahitya Academy, highlighted the long and storied history of the Kodava language. He called upon the community to take responsibility for transmitting both the language and cultural practices to the younger generation. Nanaiah stressed the need to create more opportunities for Kodava writers, asserting that the 'Kodava Pusthaka Pathaya' will significantly strengthen the literary landscape. "Our goal is to set up a Kodava bookshelf in every Kodava Samaja and Kodava-speaking society," he stated, encouraging literature enthusiasts to leverage this initiative for greater cultural engagement.

Nanaiah further explained that the Kodava bookshelf initiative aims to preserve the works of all contributors who have elevated Kodava literature to its peak. This effort is designed not only to honor past achievements but also to inspire new literary creations. The vice-president of the Karnataka State Sports Authority, Cheppudira Arun Machaiah, also lauded the Academy's efforts. He advocated for increased use of the Kodava language and urged parents living abroad to teach their children Kodava language and literature, ensuring cultural continuity across borders.
The launch ceremony was attended by numerous Kodava Samaja office-bearers and Kodava writers, reflecting broad community support. This collective involvement underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in cultural preservation.
