CM Mohan Yadav Inaugurates First Phase of Pashupatinath Lok in Mandsaur
In a significant development for religious tourism in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the first phase of Pashupatinath Lok in Mandsaur on Thursday. This new corridor at the ancient Pashupatinath Temple is inspired by the grandeur of Ujjain's Mahakal Lok and aims to enhance the region's spiritual and cultural identity.
Project Details and Architectural Features
The first phase of the project, completed at an approximate cost of 25 crore rupees, has transformed the temple premises into a stunning landscape. Spanning across 15 bighas, the Lok showcases traditional Rajasthani red stone carvings and a majestic entrance designed in the Ayodhya architectural style.
Collector Aditi Garg highlighted the comprehensive facilities developed to manage the increasing footfall of pilgrims. The complex includes:
- An open-air theatre for cultural programmes
- A satsang bhawan
- Beautiful gardens and a pond
- A primary medical aid room
- Four major entrance gates for easy access
- A spacious waiting area
- A dedicated food court (Bhojanshala)
- A guest house
The area is under 24/7 surveillance with a high-tech CCTV network and a centralised control room equipped with an announcement system.
Conservation Efforts and Historical Significance
The eight-faced (Ashtamukhi) idol of Lord Pashupatinath, dating back to 575 AD, recently underwent specialised conservation work. A team of archaeological experts from West Bengal, associated with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), repaired minor scratches on the ancient idol.
Due to these ongoing preservation efforts, entry into the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) is currently restricted. However, devotees can still seek blessings from the outside.
Government's Vision and Future Plans
Speaking at the inauguration event, CM Yadav reiterated the government's commitment to developing religious circuits. "The first phase is complete and we have already begun planning the next stage. We are dedicated to making Madhya Pradesh a hub of religious tourism," the CM said.
The project saw over 100 artisans from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat working for over two years. It marks the realisation of an idea envisioned in 2022 to elevate Mandsaur's prominence on the global spiritual map.
This initiative is expected to boost religious tourism in the region, providing pilgrims with enhanced facilities while preserving the temple's historical and cultural heritage.
