Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Assam on a significant visit to inaugurate four major projects, marking a pivotal moment for the state's cultural and infrastructural landscape. The events, centered in Guwahati and Nagaon, are set for Monday, following Shah's late Sunday night arrival.
Historic Inauguration of Batadrava Than Cultural Project
One of the flagship projects to be dedicated to the nation is the Batadrava Than Cultural Project at Nagaon, the birthplace of the great Vaishnavite saint and reformer, Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a post on social media platform X, described Monday as a "historic day" for the state.
CM Sarma emphasized that the redevelopment initiative is very close to his heart and will showcase Assam's beautiful culture while propagating the ideals of Gurujona (Srimanta Sankardeva). The project aims to transform the sacred site into a world-class spiritual and cultural destination, highlighting the region's rich heritage. Officials report that nearly 90% of the work is complete, and the inauguration is expected to attract thousands of devotees and dignitaries.
Boosting Infrastructure: Northeast's Largest Auditorium and Smart Surveillance
In the state capital, Guwahati, Amit Shah will inaugurate the northeast's largest auditorium, a massive facility with a seating capacity of 5,000. This venue is poised to become a central hub for major cultural and public events in the region.
Simultaneously, Shah will launch the Intelligent City Surveillance System (ICSS), a Rs 177-crore project designed to enhance urban safety and management. The advanced system aims to ease traffic congestion and improve crowd management through technology.
The comprehensive ICSS setup includes:
- Surveillance cameras and equipment installed at prime junctions, and areas identified as crime-prone, accident-prone, and high-crowd by Assam Police.
- Public announcement systems and emergency call boxes at 20 key locations.
- Environmental sensors deployed at 10 prime spots to monitor conditions.
A Day of Dedication and Development
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined the itinerary, noting that the Union Home Minister will inaugurate all four projects on Monday before returning to Delhi in the evening. The visit underscores the central government's focus on Assam's development, blending cultural preservation with modern technological advancement.
The redevelopment of Batadrava Than is seen not just as an infrastructure project but as a transformative initiative to promote the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva and solidify Assam's position on the global spiritual map. This series of inaugurations represents a substantial step in enhancing both the soft power and hard infrastructure of the state.
