Shakti Vandan Festival Kicks Off in Jaipur to Celebrate Women's Strength and Leadership
In a vibrant celebration coinciding with International Women's Day and the birth anniversary of the revered historical figure Panna Dhai, the two-day Shakti Vandan – Bharat Ke Swa Ka Abhinandan festival commenced on Sunday at the iconic Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur. Organized by former Jaipur mayor Somya Gurjar, the event is specifically designed to foster confidence, leadership, and self-reliance among women and girls across the region.
Inauguration and Key Highlights
The festival was formally inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, who unveiled a striking 10-foot statue of Panna Dhai, symbolizing the enduring legacy of women's courage. RSS Rajasthan regional pracharak Nimbaraam also graced the occasion, emphasizing in his address that India is poised to emerge as a global leader powered by the strength of its women. He highlighted the significance of increasing women's representation in governance, including the proposed 33% reservation, as a critical step toward further empowerment.
Deputy CM Bairwa reinforced the state government's commitment to ensuring a secure and dignified future for women, drawing inspiration from historical icons like Rani Lakshmibai and Panna Dhai, who exemplified bravery against injustice.
Practical Empowerment Initiatives
As a core component of the program, over 500 women and girls are receiving comprehensive self-defense training, equipping them with essential skills for personal safety. Additionally, in a significant public health move, more than 1,000 girls aged 9 to 14 will be administered HPV vaccinations on Monday, aiming to protect against cervical cancer and promote long-term wellness.
Inspiring Sessions and Personal Journeys
A key session titled Gen Z ka Viksit Bharat featured inspiring women sharing their transformative journeys. Kajal Valmiki, a former sanitation worker in JMC's Jagatpura zone, narrated how her passion for singing propelled her to national platforms and enabled her to launch her own YouTube channel. Maithili Thakur encouraged the audience to pursue dreams fearlessly, stating, "Many young people hesitate to take the first step because they fear failure. But it is better to begin and learn from mistakes than to never try." She underscored the power of digital platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube in showcasing young talent.
In the Meri Kahani, Meri Zubani session, acclaimed actor Raveena Tandon stressed the importance of instilling the right values in boys to drive positive social change and gender equality.

Organizer Somya Gurjar articulated that the festival aims to celebrate women's achievements while inspiring them to chase their aspirations. Experts engaged in discussions on how artificial intelligence could unlock new opportunities for women in entrepreneurship and start-ups, highlighting the role of technology in bridging gender gaps in the business world.
