Hazaribag district has significantly boosted its eco-tourism offerings with the grand opening of a magnificent Biodiversity Park situated at the picturesque foothills of Canary Hill. This new recreational space promises to become a major attraction for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike.
Political Leadership and Development Timeline
The project owes its realization to the persistent efforts of Manish Jaiswal, who served as the Sadar MLA during the planning phase and currently represents the area as Lok Sabha MP. The forest department initiated construction work in July 2023, and after months of dedicated development, the park has now materialized into a concrete recreational destination for Hazaribag residents and visitors.
Park Features and Infrastructure
Spread across an impressive six hectares of land with a development cost of approximately ₹3.07 crore, the biodiversity park offers numerous attractions that celebrate local flora and fauna. Visitors can admire statue-like displays showcasing various wildlife species and birds, along with multiple biodiversity exhibits thoughtfully installed throughout the premises.
The park design creatively meanders through the existing Canary forests, providing visitors with a unique and pleasant experience that includes breathtaking views of Canary Hill. The landscape is further enhanced by attractive ponds and lush greenery that create a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation and nature appreciation.
Inauguration and Environmental Vision
Chief Minister Hemant Soren formally inaugurated the biodiversity park through an online ceremony from Ranchi on Saturday. The event saw the presence of MLA Pradeep Prasad, who emphasized the park's core objectives during his address.
"This park was created with the aim of conserving the environment, protecting wildlife, and preserving the natural heritage of the area, which will become an important identity for Hazaribag in the future," stated Prasad. He further added, "This will also promote local tourism and strengthen employment opportunities in these areas."
Manish Jaiswal attended as the guest of honor and conducted a formal inspection of the park facilities. Demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation, Jaiswal planted a mahogany tree within the park premises, reinforcing the ecological message behind the project.
Visitor Information and Future Plans
The park has been opened to the public with an entry fee set at ₹30 per person. Recognizing the needs of frequent visitors, Jaiswal instructed forest department officials to develop a monthly pass system that would benefit regular patrons.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed participation from several key forest department officials, including Regional Chief Conservator of Forest R N Mishra, Conservator of Forest Mamta Priyadarshi, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Eastern Division Vikas Kumar Ujjwal, and DFO Wildlife Division Suraj Singh, among others.
This new biodiversity park represents a significant step forward in Hazaribag's tourism infrastructure, combining environmental conservation with recreational opportunities while potentially boosting local economic development through increased tourist footfall.
