Her Trails 2026: Women's Tourism Conclave in Wayanad

Kerala is set to host a pioneering national event focused on empowering women in the tourism sector. The Wayanad Eco Tourism Association (WETA), in collaboration with the state's tourism department, will organise 'Her Trails 2026'. This women-centric initiative aims to foster leadership, responsible travel, and women-friendly tourism practices in the scenic district of Wayanad.

A Platform for Women Leaders and Change-Makers

The two-day event, scheduled for January 17 and 18, 2026, is designed to create a powerful network. It will bring together a diverse group of participants, including women entrepreneurs, educators, adventurers, social activists, tourism professionals, and government officials. According to curator Ranjini Menon, the conclave seeks to establish Wayanad as a premier destination known for safety, inclusivity, and appeal to women travellers.

"Her Trails brings together women leaders from various fields to create a strong platform," Menon stated. "The goal is to project Wayanad as a safe, inclusive, and women-friendly tourism destination." The indoor sessions will be held at Saptha Resorts @ Spa in Wayanad on the first day.

Inauguration and Key Sessions

The conclave will commence at 9:30 AM on January 17 with a formal inauguration. The ceremony will be presided over by Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas. Following the inauguration, a series of discussions and sessions will begin, focusing on building leadership and enhancing women's participation in the tourism industry.

National Ladies Off-Road Expedition: Adventure and Advocacy

The second day of 'Her Trails 2026' will shift to an adventurous outdoor setting. The event will feature the 'National Ladies 4*4 Off-Road Expedition' at the picturesque Parisons Tea Estate Trails in Mananthavady. This unique expedition is designed to combine adventure tourism with the event's core message of women's empowerment and capability.

The off-road journey will be flagged off by O R Kelu, who serves as the Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and Dewaswoms. This segment of the event highlights the adventurous spirit and aims to encourage more women to explore and engage with nature and challenging terrains.

Impact and Future of Tourism in Wayanad

This initiative represents a significant step by the Kerala tourism department and local stakeholders to diversify the tourism experience. By placing women's safety, leadership, and entrepreneurship at the forefront, 'Her Trails 2026' is expected to:

  • Set a new benchmark for responsible and inclusive tourism in India.
  • Create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in the local tourism ecosystem.
  • Enhance Wayanad's brand image as a destination that welcomes and empowers all travellers.

The conclave is poised to generate important dialogues, policy recommendations, and on-ground initiatives that will shape a more equitable future for the tourism sector in Kerala and beyond.
