Lucknow is set to offer residents and tourists a novel way to explore its rich heritage and modern landmarks with the launch of a curated city tour on an electric double-decker bus. The service, operated by the UP State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC), is scheduled to commence regular operations from January 7, following a successful mock drill.
A Glimpse into the Tour Itinerary and Routes
The three-hour tour, priced at an affordable Rs 500 per person, promises an immersive experience of the City of Nawabs. The itinerary is meticulously designed to cover a blend of historical, political, and contemporary sites. Officials confirmed that the tour includes ticketed entry to The Residency and the newly unveiled UP Darshan Park, along with an exclusive visit inside the Vidhan Sabha Bhavan.
There will be two distinct tours: morning and evening. The morning tour will commence at 8:30 am from 1090 Chauraha in Gomti Nagar and conclude by 11:30 am. This route will criss-cross the city, passing iconic landmarks such as Raj Bhavan, the General Post Office (GPO), and the bustling Hazratganj market.
Key Destinations on the Lucknow Darshan Route
The proposed journey is a comprehensive showcase of Lucknow's evolution. Passengers will witness the grandeur of Ambedkar Park, developed during the BSP regime, and the artistic installations at UP Darshan Park, after passing through Begum Hazrat Mahal Park and Globe Park. The historical segment features a detailed tour of The Residency, the defining site of the 1857 uprising, where an evening light and sound show is also planned.
Other notable stops include the architectural marvel of Chattar Manzil, the scenic Gomti Riverfront, and the historic Sibtainabad Imambara. The tour culminates at the modern culinary hub, Food Valley, reflecting Lucknow's recent UNESCO recognition as a "Creative City of Gastronomy."
Operational Details and Special Launch Offer
The project received its final green flag after a two-day mock drill conducted on Saturday to fine-tune operational logistics and ensure passenger comfort. A test ride with 45 participants was successfully completed. The evening tour will run from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, offering a different perspective of the city under lights.
To promote the new service, UPSTDC is offering a 10% discount on ticket bookings valid until January 31. Light refreshments will be provided during the tours, adding to the convenience for visitors. This initiative aligns with Uttar Pradesh's push to boost tourism, having hosted over 646.81 million domestic tourists last year, which accounted for nearly 22% of India's total tourist share.
This electric double-decker service not only provides a unique sightseeing solution but also highlights Lucknow's status as a city seamlessly blending its glorious past with a vibrant and creative present.
