Mumbai Airport Shatters Record with 1.76 Lakh Passengers in a Single Day
Mumbai Airport Hits Record 1.76 Lakh Passengers in a Day

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has soared to a new historic peak, registering its highest-ever single-day passenger traffic in November 2025. The airport witnessed an unprecedented surge in travellers, culminating in a record-breaking day that highlights the robust recovery and growth of air travel in the region.

A Historic Day for India's Financial Capital

The airport's data reveals that November 29, 2025, marked a monumental day, with a staggering 1.76 lakh passengers passing through its terminals. This figure represents the highest single-day footfall since the airport began operations. The record day was not an isolated spike; it was part of a remarkably busy month where two other dates, November 15 and November 22, also saw traffic exceeding 1.72 lakh passengers each. This makes November the month hosting the airport's top three single-day traffic records.

Breaking Down the Record Numbers

A closer look at the November 29 traffic shows a strong performance across both domestic and international sectors. Approximately 1.22 lakh travellers were on domestic flights, while international passenger numbers crossed the 54,000 mark. This surge contributed to the airport managing a total of 48.88 lakh passengers throughout the entire month of November. In terms of operations, CSMIA handled around 27,960 air traffic movements during the month, with a peak of 1,036 movements recorded on November 21.

The overall monthly passenger volume was driven by festive and winter travel demand. Of the total, over 3.4 million passengers were domestic travellers, and more than 1.4 million journeyed on international routes.

Top Destinations Driving the Surge

The data provides clear insights into the most popular routes from Mumbai during this record period.

International Routes (November):

  • Dubai emerged as the busiest international destination with 2,09,714 passengers.
  • It was followed by London Heathrow (1,12,043 passengers) and Abu Dhabi (1,00,284 passengers).

Domestic Routes (November):

  • Delhi remained the busiest sector by a significant margin, with 6,09,646 passengers.
  • Bengaluru followed with 4,36,301 passengers, and Chennai with 2,07,692 passengers.

On the specific record day of November 29, the high passenger volumes on international routes were led by flights to Dubai, London Heathrow, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Doha. Domestically, demand was strongest for Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad.

Sustained Growth and Future Outlook

Airport officials have attributed this remarkable traffic surge to strong seasonal travel demand and the airport's extensive and sustained connectivity across both domestic and international networks. The consecutive record-breaking days in November indicate a sustained upward trend in passenger confidence and travel appetite post-pandemic. This milestone firmly re-establishes CSMIA's position as one of India's most critical aviation hubs and a key driver of economic and tourism activity in the Mumbai region. The data suggests that the airport is not only recovering but is now operating at levels that set new benchmarks for its capacity and service.
