The United States continues to dominate international tourism, attracting millions of globetrotters every year. The country with 50 states is a beautiful mix of historic architecture, iconic cities, stunning beaches, unbelievable national parks, and UNESCO Heritage sites. A new report by Visual Capitalist, based on data from the U.S. International Trade Administration’s National Travel and Tourism Office, reveals which American states welcomed the highest number of visitors in 2024 — trends that are continuing strongly into 2026.
Interestingly, New York, Florida, California, and Nevada account for nearly 57% of all international visitors to the U.S. Let’s have a look at the top 10 most visited states in America.
1. New York — 9.8 million visitors
New York has a strong hold when it comes to the most visited states in America. It is among the biggest tourism magnets and that too by a massive margin. The biggest reason would be the iconic attractions such as Times Square, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty. For Indian travellers, New York is often the first choice and also a stop because of excellent flight connectivity.
2. Florida — 8.86 million visitors
The number second spot is taken by Florida where beaches and theme parks come together to create magical experiences. Cities like Miami and Orlando continue to dominate travel wishlists because of attractions such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, among others.
3. California — 6.95 million visitors
California is on the third spot on the list with the most diverse travel experiences. Travellers here can explore Hollywood in Los Angeles, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Napa Valley vineyards. Don’t miss the stunning Yosemite National Park.
4. Nevada — 2.64 million visitors
Despite being much smaller in size than many American states, Nevada continues to attract travellers from across the globe because of one city: Las Vegas. The entertainment hub of the world attracts visitors for casinos, jaw-dropping luxury resorts, and concerts.
5. Texas — 2.08 million visitors
Texas has emerged as one of America’s fastest-growing travel hubs. Cities like Houston and Dallas attract global travellers with live music and barbecue culture. Austin here holds global popularity for music festivals and nightlife.

It is also known as the “Rainbow Capital of the World”. For honeymooners and beach lovers, Hawaii remains unmatched.

Illinois owes much of its popularity to Chicago. The city’s skyline, architecture cruises, jazz culture, and Lake Michigan waterfront attract visitors from around the world.
