In a significant move to bolster religious tourism and infrastructure in the Kumaon region, Uttarakhand's Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan conducted a detailed inspection of the proposed Golu Devta corridor project site in Champawat on Tuesday.
On-Site Review of the Corridor Project
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan personally toured the premises of the revered Golu Devta temple to assess the groundwork for the ambitious development plan. The state government had earlier announced this project with the primary objective of improving access and facilities for the countless devotees who visit the deity's shrines, which are spread across various locations in Kumaon, including Chitai, Champawat, and Ghorakhal.
During the visit, the Public Works Department's Executive Engineer, Mohan Paldiya, provided a comprehensive presentation outlining the project's detailed work plan. Bardhan meticulously reviewed the proposed construction, beautification, and accessibility enhancements planned for the corridor complex.
Emphasis on Timelines and Cultural Preservation
The Chief Secretary issued clear instructions to the concerned officials, directing them to ensure that all development activities are completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on quality. He stressed that high standards must be maintained to successfully promote religious tourism in the area.
Following the inspection at Golu Devta temple, Bardhan also visited the historic Baleshwar temple complex. There, he reviewed the beautification requirements for the site. He gave specific directions that any work undertaken must be done in close coordination with the state archaeology department. The focal point, he emphasized, should be the preservation of the temple's original cultural character and heritage.

Bardhan highlighted the immense cultural and religious significance of both the Golu Devta and Baleshwar temples. He described them as vital centers of cultural faith and folk traditions in the region.
