Bhatti urges Kishan Reddy to allocate new coal blocks to SCCL

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka urged Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy to allocate new coal blocks and grant the mining lease for Tadicherla Coal Block II to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). He emphasized that Singareni plays a vital role in meeting coal supply and power sector requirements in South India, and securing new coal resources is essential for future needs.

Meeting in New Delhi

The Deputy CM met Kishan Reddy in New Delhi on Wednesday. Discussions covered SCCL's future plans, coal gasification opportunities, allocation of new coal blocks, and the mining lease for Tadicherla Coal Block II. Bhatti stated that coal should not be limited to conventional power generation but should be used in a value-added manner aligned with future industrial demands.

Coal Gasification Initiatives

Bhatti explained that with the Centre prioritizing coal gasification, Singareni is ready to move forward in this direction. He noted that, similar to gasification initiatives by Coal India, Singareni is exploring ways to utilize coal resources more efficiently through modern technology. Coal gasification would add value to coal resources while strengthening energy security, industrial usage, and employment opportunities. He requested the Ministry of Coal to provide technical guidance, policy support, and assistance in linking Singareni's initiatives with central schemes.

Koyagudem Block III

Bhatti brought to the Union Minister's attention that Koyagudem Block III, located in the Godavari Valley Coal Fields, is crucial for Telangana's power requirements. Although the block was allocated through auction in the past, operations have not started even after four years. He requested steps to allocate Koyagudem Block III to SCCL.

Tadicherla Coal Block II

On Tadicherla Coal Block II, Bhatti explained that Singareni has already undertaken pre-mining activities and exploration works, and the mining lease process needs to be expedited. The development of this block is important for Singareni's future requirements and Telangana's energy security.

Positive Response from Union Minister

Kishan Reddy responded positively to the issues raised and assured that a joint meeting would be convened soon with central and state officials, along with Singareni representatives, to discuss coal gasification plans, allocation of Koyagudem Block III, and the mining lease for Tadicherla Coal Block II.
