In a significant move to bolster infrastructure and security along the northern frontiers, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a massive 125 infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, marks a pivotal step in enhancing strategic connectivity and socio-economic development in the high-altitude region.
Strategic Boost for Border Connectivity
The portfolio of 125 projects encompasses a wide range of critical infrastructure aimed at strengthening India's operational capabilities and improving the lives of local residents. The key highlight was the inauguration of the Nyoma Airfield, now upgraded to a Class 'A' airfield. This advanced facility is strategically located just 25 kilometres from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and will significantly enhance the Indian Air Force's operational reach and rapid deployment capabilities in the sector.
Alongside the airfield, the Defence Minister unveiled 63 bridges and 62 roads, all built under challenging conditions. The event was conducted virtually, with Rajnath Singh participating from Delhi, while the physical ceremony took place at the Nyoma Airfield, attended by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) B.D.
