Delhi Metro Issues Rs 3.2 Crore Tender for Central Vista Depot Design Consultant

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a significant step forward in its expansion plans by floating a tender worth Rs 3.2 crore to appoint a detailed design consultant for the proposed Central Vista depot. This depot will be strategically located near Majlis Park Station on Line 8 and is a crucial component of the Phase-VA expansion project.

Strategic Location and Function of the New Depot

An official from DMRC confirmed the tender issuance, stating it is for architectural, electrical, and mechanical design works for the Central Vista Depot, which will be constructed at both grade and elevated levels. Depots are essential facilities in the Delhi Metro network, serving as hubs for routine maintenance, inspection, and cleaning of trains before they commence revenue service each day.

Currently, DMRC operates 14 depots across its extensive network. The new Central Vista depot has been specifically planned to cater to the requirements of Phase VA, which includes the Central Vista corridor. This corridor is part of the 10-kilometer-long RK Ashram to Indraprastha route, designed to provide seamless connectivity to all Kartavya Bhawans, offering doorstep access for office-goers and visitors in the area.

Enhanced Connectivity and Visitor Benefits

The Central Vista corridor will not only connect key government offices but also link to significant cultural and transit points, including the upcoming Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum near Rakabganj Gurudwara and Shivaji Stadium. DMRC estimates that this new corridor will benefit approximately 60,000 office-goers and nearly 2 lakh visitors daily, significantly improving urban mobility and reducing travel time in central Delhi.

Magenta Line to Become Longest Driverless Corridor

Once the Central Vista corridor is integrated, the Magenta Line will extend to an impressive 88.4 kilometers, making it the longest corridor in the DMRC network. Running from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, this line is planned to operate as a fully driverless system, showcasing advanced automation in public transport.

The Magenta Line will serve stations across Noida, south Delhi, and central Delhi, featuring 21 interchange stations—the highest number for any DMRC corridor. This will dramatically enhance cross-city connectivity, allowing passengers to transfer efficiently between different metro lines and reducing overall commute times.

Surpassing Existing Records and Network Expansion

With this extension, the Magenta Line will overtake the Pink Line, which currently holds the record as the longest corridor at over 71.5 kilometers with 46 stations. The Pink Line is notable as the only circular corridor in the DMRC network, but the Magenta Line's new length and interchange capacity will set a new benchmark for metro operations in Delhi.

Additional Corridors Under Phase VA

Apart from the RK Ashram Marg-Indraprastha corridor, Phase VA includes two other approved corridors:

  • The Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj extension
  • The Aerocity-Terminal 1 corridor

Both of these will be extensions of the upcoming Golden Line, further expanding DMRC's reach and connectivity across the National Capital Region.

Current Network and Future Growth

At present, DMRC's network spans 416 kilometers with 303 stations, incorporating the Noida-Greater Noida Aqua Line and Rapid Metro Gurgaon. Additionally, five new corridors are under construction as part of the Phase IV expansion, indicating continuous growth and development in Delhi's metro infrastructure to meet rising urban transport demands.

The tender for the Central Vista depot design consultant marks a pivotal move in this expansion, ensuring that the new facilities are built to high standards of efficiency and sustainability, ultimately benefiting millions of daily commuters and supporting Delhi's evolving public transport ecosystem.
