Engineer Rashid, the Member of Parliament from Baramulla, met his ailing father at a hospital in Srinagar on Tuesday during his interim bail. The former MLA, who is currently out on interim bail in a case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), spent about an hour with his father at the hospital.
Details of the Visit
Rashid, who was released from Tihar Jail on interim bail on February 27, visited the hospital accompanied by his family members. His father, Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, is undergoing treatment for age-related ailments. The meeting took place under tight security arrangements.
Political Significance
The visit comes at a time when Rashid has been actively participating in political activities in the Kashmir Valley. He has been holding meetings with party workers and addressing public gatherings. His interim bail is set to expire on March 6, and he is expected to surrender before the NIA court on the same day.
Rashid's arrest in 2019 was linked to a case of alleged terror funding and sedition. He has been in judicial custody since then. The interim bail was granted by the NIA court on medical grounds for his father's illness.
During his stay in Srinagar, Rashid also visited his constituency Baramulla and met with local leaders. The opposition parties have been critical of the interim bail, accusing the government of preferential treatment.
