India has expressed deep appreciation for Slovenia's condemnation of the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the shared resolve against terrorism. Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (West) Sibi George conveyed this gratitude during Slovenia's National Day celebrations at its embassy in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Shared Democratic Values and Multilateralism
Addressing the gathering, George highlighted the warm and friendly relations between India and Slovenia, built on mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a common commitment to multilateralism. He noted that regular high-level exchanges have strengthened bilateral ties, citing the historic state visit of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind to Slovenia in 2019 and the visit of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in 2021 as pivotal moments.
Firm Stand Against Terrorism
George emphasized both nations' common resolve in combating terrorism. He stated, "India and Slovenia also share the common resolve in the fight against terrorism. We deeply appreciate Slovenia's strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir in India in April 2025 and its resolute stand on opposition to terrorism in any and every form." Reiterating India's zero-tolerance policy, he added that this message was made clear through Operation Sindoor.
Gratitude for Support
"We thank our friends in Slovenia for their support in our fight against global terrorism and cross-border terrorism," George said. On the same occasion, he reaffirmed the commitment to the longstanding India-Slovenia partnership. In a post on X, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that George appreciated Slovenia's steadfast support in the fight against cross-border terrorism.
Slovenian Ambassador's Remarks
Slovenian Ambassador Tomaz Mencin remarked that India and Slovenia enjoy warm and cordial relations marked by regular political dialogue. Reflecting on Slovenia's 35 years of independence, he said, "Over the past three and a half decades, Slovenia has established itself as a stable democracy, a successful member of the European Union and NATO, and a trusted partner in the international community." He added that the approaching 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries provides an excellent opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to further strengthening the partnership.
