Majority of Indian Students Successfully Evacuated from Iran, Remaining on Final Journey
DEHRADUN: In a significant evacuation operation, around 1,100 of the approximately 1,200 Indian students who were stranded in Iran have now safely returned to India. The majority of these students hail from the Jammu and Kashmir region, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), which provided an update on Thursday.
Evacuation Efforts and Coordination
JKSA national convenor Nasir Khuehami detailed that the evacuation was meticulously coordinated with officials from the Indian embassy in Tehran. "The remaining students are expected to reach India on Thursday or by Friday. All the students who have returned are safe and in good health," Khuehami stated, emphasizing the successful outcome of the operation.
He further explained that the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian embassy in Tehran played crucial roles in intervening and coordinating efforts to relocate the students to safer locations during the crisis. "Necessary logistical support and facilitation were provided to ensure their safe evacuation. However, the students returned via commercial flights by booking the tickets on their own. We are in constant touch with the authorities and the students to ensure the safe return of every individual," Khuehami added.
Current Status of Remaining Students
The remaining 100 students have crossed into Armenia and Azerbaijan and are currently on the final leg of their journey back to India. This development marks a positive step in resolving the situation that left many students in a precarious position.
The evacuation highlights the collaborative efforts between Indian governmental bodies and student associations to ensure the welfare of citizens abroad. The JKSA has been instrumental in maintaining communication and providing updates throughout the process.
As the situation unfolds, authorities continue to monitor the safe return of all affected students, with expectations set for their arrival by the end of the week.
