Shillong: Almost 90 per cent of the fencing along the India-Bangladesh border that Meghalaya shares with the neighbouring country has been completed, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said.
He said approximately 400 km of the total stretch of around 443 km of the international border was fenced.
“Only around 40-45 km of fencing is pending. So, 90 per cent of boundary fencing has been completed and there are some problems regarding the remaining 10 per cent, which pertain to specific local issues,” the CM told media persons today.
“We are talking with the local communities wherever there are problems. Their concerns too are genuine, and we are trying to resolve these issues,” he said and cited example of the fencing passing right through the middle of a village.
“Our work (border fencing) is progressing quite fast compared to other states and we want 100 per cent completion of the fencing,” he said.
