Pakistan Confirms Trump Invited PM Sharif to Join Gaza Peace Board
Pakistan: Trump Invited PM Sharif to Gaza Peace Board

Pakistan officially confirmed on Sunday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a formal invitation from United States President Donald Trump. The invitation asks Sharif to join the newly formed Board of Peace for Gaza.

Formal Confirmation from Islamabad

In response to media questions, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi issued a clear statement. "The Prime Minister of Pakistan has received the invitation from the President of the United States to join the Board of Peace on Gaza," Andrabi said.

He further stated that Pakistan intends to stay involved with global peace efforts. "Pakistan will remain engaged with international efforts for peace and security in Gaza," Andrabi added. He emphasized this should lead to a lasting solution for Palestine based on United Nations resolutions. The spokesperson did not provide additional details about Pakistan's potential role or acceptance.

White House Announces Founding Board

The confirmation from Islamabad follows a major announcement from Washington. The White House released the official list of appointed members for the founding Executive Board this past Friday.

This move signals the start of the second phase of President Trump's proposed 20-point peace plan for the Gaza region. Trump has already declared himself the chairperson of this new international body.

Composition of the Peace Panel

According to the White House, the Board of Peace seeks leaders with diverse expertise. The administration looks for experience in areas like:

  • Diplomacy and international relations
  • Economic development and strategy
  • Large-scale infrastructure projects

The US has extended invitations to the heads of approximately sixty nations. Notable leaders invited include those from:

  1. Turkiye and Egypt
  2. Argentina and Indonesia
  3. Italy, Morocco, and the United Kingdom
  4. Germany, Canada, and Australia

Key International Figures Appointed

The board also includes several prominent international figures beyond state leaders. The panel features US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

World Bank President Ajay Banga will also serve on the board. President Trump's senior negotiators, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, are part of the panel as well. Their inclusion points to the board's focus on direct negotiation and deal-making.

The formation of this board represents a significant step in Trump's approach to the Gaza conflict. Pakistan's confirmed invitation places it among a large group of nations asked to contribute to this new peace initiative. The world now watches to see how Pakistan and other invited countries will respond to this call for diplomatic engagement.
