NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a five-nation tour on Friday, beginning with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as announced by the government in an official statement. The tour will include visits to Sweden, the Netherlands, and Norway for the India-Nordic summit, which was postponed last year following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Subsequently, the Prime Minister will also travel to Italy.
Key Highlights of the Tour
During his stopover in the UAE, PM Modi will meet with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders are expected to exchange views on a range of bilateral issues, including energy cooperation, as well as regional and international matters of mutual interest. This visit marks Modi's first trip to a Gulf country since the onset of the conflict in the West Asia region.
Significance of the Visit
The tour underscores India's strategic engagement with key global partners. The India-Nordic summit aims to strengthen ties between India and the Nordic countries, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable development. The meetings in Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands are expected to enhance cooperation in these sectors.
In Italy, PM Modi is slated to hold discussions on furthering bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and technology. The overall itinerary reflects India's proactive diplomatic outreach and its commitment to fostering multilateral partnerships.
