PM Modi Expresses Gratitude to South Korean President
Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked South Korean President Lee Jae-myung for his warm wishes regarding the strengthening of bilateral ties between India and New Zealand. In a post on X, PM Modi acknowledged the message, stating that thoughtful messages from friends are always deeply cherished. President Lee had earlier replied to a post by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who shared visuals of PM Modi's welcome ceremony in New Zealand, wishing for the friendship and progress of both India and New Zealand.
Historic Visit to New Zealand
PM Modi arrived in Auckland on Friday for a historic visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in four decades. He was greeted by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon with a warm embrace. The visit follows the signing of a Free Trade Agreement in April 2025 and is expected to boost trade and bilateral relations. On Saturday, the two leaders held bilateral talks in Auckland, preceded by a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at Government House.
Engagements with Business and Diaspora
Later on Saturday, PM Modi is scheduled to interact with prominent business and sports personalities. He will also address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, reflecting strong people-to-people ties between the two countries, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Upon arrival, PM Modi described the visit as historic and thanked Prime Minister Luxon for the warm welcome at the airport.
Background of Bilateral Relations
The two leaders previously met in New Delhi on March 17, 2025, during Prime Minister Luxon's official visit to India. The current visit is expected to further strengthen ties following the Free Trade Agreement signed in April 2025. PM Modi's visit underscores the deepening partnership between India and New Zealand.
