The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Gujarat has reported a significant public response to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state's electoral rolls. A substantial number of citizens are actively seeking to update their voting details ahead of the crucial process.
Massive Influx of Applications for Inclusion
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, a total of 92,235 individuals have submitted Form No. 6 or 6A, requesting the inclusion of their names on the final voter list. This data is current as of December 23. The breakdown reveals that a majority of these applications, precisely 69,760 forms, were received before the draft electoral roll was published. An additional 22,475 applications were submitted after the draft list was made public.
Requests for Deletion and Verification Process
Simultaneously, the revision process has also recorded applications from citizens wishing to have their names removed from the voter list. Officials confirmed that 13,331 people have filed Form 7 for deletion from their respective assembly constituencies. Of these, 11,074 forms were submitted before the draft list publication, and 2,257 came in afterward. The election authorities have stated that they will now undertake a thorough verification process to assess the validity of all objections and claims before addressing them appropriately.
Timeline of the Special Revision Drive
The Special Intensive Revision campaign is a comprehensive exercise that commenced across Gujarat on October 27, 2025. The initial enumeration phase led to the publication of a draft voter list on December 19. A notable outcome of this preliminary phase was the removal of 7.373 million voter names from the existing rolls for various statutory reasons. The window for citizens to submit any further claims or objections remains open until January 18, providing ample opportunity for eligible voters to ensure their registration is correct.
This extensive revision drive underscores the administrative machinery's efforts to create an accurate and updated electoral database, which is fundamental to the integrity of the democratic process in the state.
