Bokaro Municipal Elections: High-Tech Security with Drones and CCTVs

As Bokaro prepares for its municipal elections scheduled for February 23, authorities have unveiled a comprehensive security plan featuring advanced technology and strict protocols to ensure a peaceful and transparent voting process. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, who also serves as the district election officer, announced on Wednesday that drones and CCTV cameras will be deployed extensively to monitor polling stations across the district.

Round-the-Clock Surveillance at Sensitive Locations

Authorities have identified sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations that will be under continuous surveillance. CCTV cameras will be installed at cross angles to cover entry points, exit areas, and voting sections, providing complete visual oversight. This technological monitoring will be complemented by traditional security measures, including flag marches and intensified local patrolling by police personnel.

Deputy Commissioner Jha emphasized that drones will play a crucial role in overseeing crowded and narrow polling locations. "Drones will help manage crowd flow and traffic effectively, especially in areas where physical monitoring is challenging," he stated. This aerial surveillance aims to prevent congestion and ensure smooth voter movement throughout the election day.

Strict Protocols and Special Arrangements for Voters

In addition to surveillance measures, authorities have implemented several strict protocols to maintain order. Mobile phones will be completely banned inside polling booths to prevent any potential interference or misuse. Dedicated teams will be stationed at polling centers to manage queues and assist voters, minimizing wait times and preventing overcrowding.

Special arrangements have also been made to facilitate voting for vulnerable groups. Senior citizens, differently abled voters, and pregnant women will receive prioritized assistance, including vehicle access to polling entrances where necessary. These measures are designed to ensure that all eligible voters can participate comfortably and without hindrance.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Audits and Official Directives

Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh has ordered detailed audits of essential facilities at every polling station. These audits will cover:

  • Water supply and sanitation facilities
  • Availability of toilets and ramps for accessibility
  • Electricity provisions and lighting arrangements
  • Backup generators to prevent disruptions

Deputy Commissioner Jha instructed election teams to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), emphasizing that no incident or information should distract them from their duties. "Our focus is on conducting free, fair, and transparent elections," he reiterated, highlighting the importance of maintaining integrity throughout the process.

Authorities Urge Responsible Voting and Early Participation

With all security and logistical arrangements in place, authorities are now calling on citizens to fulfill their democratic responsibilities. Voters are advised to arrive early at polling stations to avoid crowds and ensure a smooth voting experience. Cooperation with election staff and adherence to guidelines will be crucial for the successful execution of the municipal elections.

The deployment of special magistrates and additional police personnel at all polling centers further underscores the commitment to a secure electoral environment. As Bokaro gears up for February 23, these measures reflect a proactive approach to addressing potential challenges and ensuring that every vote is cast in a safe and orderly manner.
