Coimbatore GCT Readied as Counting Hub for Assembly Polls
Coimbatore's GCT to Host Election Counting Centres

In a significant step towards the upcoming assembly election, top officials in Coimbatore conducted a detailed inspection of the Government College of Technology (GCT) on Thadagam Road this Friday. The historic institution has been identified as the central location where counting centres will be established for the crucial electoral process.

High-Level Inspection for Poll Preparedness

The inspection visit was led by a team of senior administrators, ensuring all arrangements meet the stringent standards required for a fair and transparent vote count. District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar spearheaded the review, accompanied by Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran and Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Range) K Karthikeyan. Officials from the Public Works Department were also present to assess the infrastructural needs.

During the visit, Collector Giriyappanavar issued clear directives to the concerned departments. He instructed them to expedite all necessary arrangements to ensure the counting centres are set up efficiently and securely at the GCT campus. The focus is on creating a foolproof environment for one of democracy's most critical exercises.

GCT: The Nerve Centre for Coimbatore's Electoral Verdict

The Government College of Technology will play a pivotal role post-polling. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) along with their control units from across the district will be transported and stored in a designated strong room within the GCT premises after voting concludes. This centralised storage is a key security measure.

Coimbatore district comprises a total of ten assembly constituencies. The counting operations at GCT will determine the results for:

  • Coimbatore South
  • Coimbatore North
  • Singanallur
  • Thondamuthur
  • Kavundampalayam
  • Mettupalayam
  • Sulur
  • Kinathukadavu
  • Pollachi
  • Valparai

Ensuring a Smooth and Secure Counting Process

The selection of GCT as the counting hub underscores its strategic importance due to its location and facilities. The involvement of officials from the police, civic body, and public works department highlights the multi-agency coordination essential for successful election management. Their collective efforts are aimed at guaranteeing that the counting day proceeds without any logistical or security hiccups, thereby upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

This preparatory inspection marks a crucial phase in the election timeline, setting the stage for the final act where the votes of Coimbatore's citizens will be tallied and the democratic mandate revealed.
