A tense situation unfolded in Bhabanipur as rival rallies by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari were held in close proximity, leading to clashes between supporters. Banerjee, visibly agitated, alleged that her meeting was disrupted by loudspeakers from the BJP rally and ended her speech midway, calling the act undemocratic and hinting at legal action.
Mamata's Abrupt Exit
Addressing a gathering, Banerjee fumed over what she described as deliberate interference. She accused the BJP of using sound systems to drown out her speech, a move she termed a violation of democratic norms. She said, "This is undemocratic. I will not tolerate such behavior. We will take legal action against those responsible." She then walked off the stage, leaving the crowd in shock.
Clashes Erupt
Following her exit, TMC supporters moved toward the BJP gathering, resulting in heated exchanges and slogan shouting. Security forces quickly intervened to separate the groups and prevent further escalation. The incident added to the already charged political atmosphere in the constituency.
Complaint Filed
The Trinamool Congress later filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission, accusing the BJP of violating the model code of conduct. The complaint alleged that the BJP rally was deliberately held near Banerjee's meeting venue and used loudspeakers to disrupt her speech.
On the other hand, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari denied the allegations, countering that there was no disruption from their side. He claimed that the TMC was creating a ruckus to divert attention from other issues. The Election Commission is expected to review the complaint and take appropriate action.
