Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 84.60% till 6pm on Thursday, with 4.84 crore votes cast out of a total electorate of 5.73 crore across 234 constituencies. The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the approximate trends, highlighting significant early morning momentum that sustained until 1pm.
District-Wise Voting Percentages
Karur district registered the highest polling percentage at 91.97%, followed closely by Salem at 90.23%. In contrast, Kanyakumari recorded the lowest turnout at 75.50%. Other districts falling below the state average include Ramanathapuram (76.28%), Sivaganga (76.18%), Tirunelveli (77.49%), and Tuticorin (79.92%).
Impact of Summer Heat on Polling
The polling percentage dipped between 1pm and 3pm due to intense summer heat, but voting gradually picked up pace after 3pm as more electorates reached polling stations. The final turnout stood at 84.35% at 6pm. Voting continues at several polling stations where ECI officials distributed coupons to voters who entered the premises before the 6pm deadline.
These trends reflect the state's active participation in the electoral process despite challenging weather conditions.
