Trichy Draft Electoral Roll Excludes 10.9 Lakh Voters

The draft electoral roll for assembly constituencies in central Tamil Nadu, released on Friday following the Summary Revision (SIR) drive, has led to the exclusion of a staggering 10,93,679 voters. The massive purge targets duplicate entries, absent, shifted, and deceased voters, aiming to create a more accurate voter database.

District-Wise Breakdown of Voter Deletions

The data reveals a significant disparity in the number of deletions across districts. Trichy district recorded the highest number of deletions in the state, with a whopping 3.3 lakh voters removed from the preliminary list. In stark contrast, Ariyalur district saw the minimum number of deletions, with only 24,368 voters excluded, making it the district with the lowest deletions statewide.

Officials have clarified that this exercise is part of the routine cleansing process to ensure the integrity of the electoral roll. District collectors have now opened a window for claims and objections. Voters who find discrepancies or whose names are missing can raise claims until January 18.

How to Verify Your Voter Details

Authorities are urging all eligible voters to proactively check their enrollment status. Verification can be done through multiple channels:

  • Contacting booth-level agents (BLAs) of recognised political parties.
  • Using the online platforms provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Within Trichy district, the Srirangam assembly segment has the highest number of voters at 2.7 lakh, while the Thuraiyur segment has the lowest count of 2 lakh voters.

Restructuring of Polling Booths and SIR Drive Details

In a related development, the number of polling booths in Trichy district has been officially increased. Previously, the district had 2,543 polling booths. After restructuring as per ECI guidelines, the count has risen to 2,785 booths.

Detailing the scale of the SIR exercise, Trichy Collector V Saravanan stated that a massive workforce was deployed. This included over 11,000 booth-level agents, more than 2,500 volunteers, and around 3,000 officers for the distribution, collection, and digitisation of enumeration forms.

For the final electoral list to be precise, district collectors across the region have made a final appeal. They are urging both booth-level agents and voters to submit appropriate forms for corrections or inclusions within the stipulated deadline to ensure no legitimate voter is left out.
