The Jammu and Kashmir Police have released a comprehensive advisory for pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra in 2026, outlining the facilities available along the route to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage. The advisory comes as preparations intensify for the annual Hindu pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, located in the Himalayas.
Key Facilities Listed in the Advisory
According to the police advisory, pilgrims will have access to several facilities including medical aid stations, temporary shelters, drinking water points, and sanitation units at various halting points. The police have also set up control rooms and help desks to assist pilgrims in case of emergencies. The advisory emphasizes that all facilities are being coordinated with the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and other government agencies.
The police have urged pilgrims to follow all safety guidelines and register their travel details. They also advised carrying necessary documents and avoiding unnecessary risks during the journey.
Security Arrangements
Elaborate security arrangements have been made along both the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route. Police personnel, including special task force units, will be deployed at strategic points. The advisory states that more than 10,000 security personnel will be stationed along the routes to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
“We have made comprehensive arrangements for the safety and comfort of the pilgrims. All necessary facilities like medical camps, drinking water, and shelters are being provided,” a senior police official said.
Registration and Medical Screening
Pilgrims are required to register online through the SASB website and undergo mandatory medical screening. The advisory warns that those without valid registration and health certificates will not be allowed to proceed. The police also recommend that pilgrims carry warm clothing and rain gear, as weather conditions in the mountains can change rapidly.
Helpline Numbers and Emergency Contacts
The advisory includes helpline numbers for pilgrims to contact in case of any assistance. Control rooms have been set up in Jammu, Srinagar, and along the yatra route. Pilgrims can also reach out to the local police stations for help.
The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to commence in July 2026 and will continue for several weeks, depending on the Hindu calendar. The pilgrimage attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees each year.
