Guwahati: Assam chief secretary Ravi Kota on Saturday chaired a meeting with officials to assess steps taken to cover open manholes and drains and install barricades at identified high-risk locations to prevent accidents.

A government release said departments were asked to secure all vulnerable points. The review examined preparedness across departments for flood management, drainage and public safety in Guwahati.

Focus on Drainage and Flood Management

“The meeting focused on the progress of desilting of major drains, deployment of pumping systems, and precautionary measures related to guard wall construction along the Bharalu River and other key drainage channels,” the statement read.

Landslide-Prone Areas Under Surveillance

Over 300 locations in the city have been identified as landslide-prone and are under surveillance. Awareness efforts will be stepped up to alert locals about potential hazards.

Authorities are taking proactive steps to ensure public safety, especially during the monsoon season. The chief secretary emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination to address infrastructure vulnerabilities.
