CM Reports Catastrophic Rainfall in Two Districts
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reported on Saturday that Sivasagar and Charaideo districts experienced more than 400% excess rainfall, leading to widespread devastation, including loss of lives, destruction of homes, and rotting cattle. The statement came as rescue teams continued operations in the affected areas.

The floods have submerged vast stretches of farmland and residential areas. Many families have lost their cattle, a primary source of livelihood, with carcasses floating in stagnant waters. Local officials estimate that hundreds of animals have perished, compounding the economic distress of farmers already struggling from previous floods.

The state government has deployed National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and boats to rescue stranded residents. Relief camps have been set up in higher grounds, providing food and medical aid. CM Sarma assured that compensation for damaged homes and lost livestock would be processed swiftly.
