Public Outrage Erupts in Beed Over Construction Failures
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The city of Beed has been rocked by public outrage following two alarming incidents involving newly constructed infrastructure. A recently built MSRTC bus stand has developed significant leakages, while a newly installed traffic signal collapsed due to strong winds on the night of April 1. These events have sparked widespread criticism from residents, who are demanding accountability for what they perceive as substandard workmanship.
Leakages at Bus Stand and Signal Collapse Cause Panic
The leakages at the MSRTC bus stand became apparent during unseasonal showers that swept across Beed and other parts of the Marathwada region. Simultaneously, the traffic signal caved in under the force of heavy winds, creating a scene of chaos and concern. Although no loss of life or property damage was reported, the sudden collapse of the signal caused panic among local residents and led to temporary traffic jams, disrupting normal life in the area.
Residents Blame Substandard Construction Quality
Angry residents have pointed fingers at the poor quality of both construction projects, calling for strict action against the private contractors involved and certain politicians. One anonymous resident voiced the community's frustration, stating, "The Beed bus stand building is newly constructed, yet it has already developed major leakages. Similarly, the traffic signal could not withstand heavy winds. Such incidents tarnish the image of Beed, which is already in the news for negative reasons related to law and order issues." This sentiment reflects a broader concern over infrastructure safety and governance in the region.
Official Response and Legal Action Taken
In the wake of strong public reactions, the Beed Municipal Council has registered an offence against the private contractor responsible for installing the traffic signal. Local police have filed a case under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with negligent acts that endanger human life or personal safety. Meanwhile, Anuja Dusane, the MSRTC divisional controller for Beed, has not responded to calls and messages seeking her comments on the bus stand leakages, leaving questions unanswered about the agency's role in overseeing the project.
The incidents have highlighted critical issues in infrastructure development, with residents urging authorities to ensure better quality control and transparency in future projects to prevent such mishaps and restore public trust.
