The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Chairman has issued directives for the desilting and cleaning of manholes across the city as part of monsoon preparedness measures. The order aims to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth drainage during the upcoming rainy season.
Proactive Measures to Prevent Waterlogging
The BWSSB chief emphasized the need for proactive maintenance to avoid flooding in low-lying areas. Teams have been instructed to clear debris and silt from manholes and stormwater drains. The initiative covers all wards in Bengaluru, with priority given to areas that have historically faced waterlogging issues.
Inspection and Monitoring
Senior officials will conduct random inspections to ensure compliance. The BWSSB has also set up a control room to monitor rainfall and respond to waterlogging complaints promptly. Citizens are encouraged to report blocked drains or manholes via the board's helpline.
This preparedness drive is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city's drainage infrastructure ahead of the monsoon, which typically begins in June. The BWSSB aims to complete desilting work within two weeks to ensure readiness for heavy rains.
