In a significant move to decongest the thoroughfares between Delhi and other National Capital Region (NCR) cities, the central government and the Delhi government will jointly undertake six major road projects. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday that all these projects have been designed keeping in view future traffic requirements.

Last week, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Gupta held a review meeting regarding these initiatives.

Key Projects Unveiled

Urban Extension Road-II Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Link

One of the approved plans is the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Link. This nearly 17-kilometer-long six-lane corridor will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 3,500 crore. It is expected to improve connectivity for Loni, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad, while significantly reducing congestion at Kalindi Kunj, Sarai Kale Khan, and the Outer Ring Road. Work on this project is expected to commence by December of this year.

Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Corridor Link with UER-II

The chief minister also highlighted a project linking the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor with UER-II. This corridor will provide traffic from the Delhi-Katra Expressway direct access to Delhi, Gurgaon, and IGI Airport through UER-II and Dwarka Expressway. With an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore, work on this 17-kilometer, six-lane corridor is scheduled to begin by March 2027.
