A 25-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in a village under Ganjam district on Sunday. The accused was from the same village as the survivor, who was reportedly lured to an isolated place in the village and raped. The incident came to light when she complained of pain to her mother.
Legal Action and Investigation
Her mother lodged an FIR against the accused the next day. “We have registered a case against the accused under the Pocso Act,” said Birendra Sial, IIC of Sheragada police station. He said police conducted the medical tests of both the minor and the accused. The girl is now with her parents after undergoing treatment, sources said.
