Chandigarh Finalises Republic Day Plans: Parade, Tableaux & Veterans Honoured
Chandigarh Reviews Republic Day 2024 Arrangements

The Chandigarh administration has initiated comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, aiming for a grand and dignified event. A crucial review meeting was convened on Tuesday under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav to finalise all arrangements.

Key Decisions and Departmental Roles

Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav chaired the meeting, which saw the participation of the Additional Deputy Commissioner and heads of all concerned stakeholder departments. The officials resolved to put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure the celebrations are conducted smoothly and with due solemnity.

The core of the celebrations will be the Republic Day Parade, for which rehearsals have been meticulously scheduled. These rehearsals will involve school and college students, police personnel, and paramilitary forces. In a significant directive, various departments have been instructed to prepare tableaux that will effectively showcase government schemes, departmental achievements, and key welfare initiatives for the public.

Logistics and Welfare Measures for Participants

Prioritising the comfort and well-being of young participants, the administration has made specific provisions. All schoolchildren involved in cultural programmes and the parade will be provided with refreshments during the rehearsal periods as well as on the main event day.

To handle the complex logistics, different departments have been assigned clear responsibilities. The transport department will arrange buses for ferrying students to and from the venue. Meanwhile, the engineering department has been tasked with the critical infrastructure setup, which includes:

  • Seating arrangements for attendees
  • Barricading for crowd management
  • Stage set-up for performances
  • Lighting and sound systems
  • Provision of basic amenities at the venue

Health, Security, and Honouring Heroes

Ensuring the health and safety of all attendees is a top priority. The health department will deploy ambulances and station medical teams at the venue during all rehearsals and on Republic Day itself to handle any emergencies.

A special and poignant emphasis will be laid on honouring the nation's heroes. The function will include a dedicated segment to pay respects to war veterans and war widows, acknowledging their sacrifices for the country.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Yadav directed all departments to maintain close coordination and complete their assigned tasks within the stipulated timelines. The overarching goal is to ensure a disciplined, memorable, and befitting celebration of India's Republic Day in Chandigarh.
