Delhi Rapid Response Teams to Check Animal Sacrifice During Bakrid

The Delhi government has constituted rapid response teams across all 13 districts in the national capital to enforce regulations against illegal animal sacrifice, unauthorised slaughter, and cruelty to animals during the upcoming Bakrid festival. These teams, formed under the Animal Husbandry Unit on the directives of Development Minister Kapil Mishra, have already commenced inspections in markets and sensitive areas across North-West, North-East, North, Central, South-West, and West Delhi.

Monitoring and Enforcement

Officials stated that the teams will closely monitor the transportation, sale, and sacrifice of animals throughout the Eid-al-Adha celebrations. Immediate action will be taken against any violations. According to Minister Mishra, the advisory is clear: no illegal sacrifice will be permitted, and the sale and purchase of animals at public places is completely prohibited.

Designated Locations Only

As per the government advisory, animal sacrifice is allowed only at authorised and designated locations. Strict bans have been imposed on sacrifices conducted on roads, lanes, and other public spaces. The minister reiterated that the slaughter or sacrifice of cows, calves, camels, and other prohibited animals is entirely banned in Delhi. Authorities have been directed to register criminal cases in instances of illegal transportation, unauthorised slaughter, or animal cruelty.

Preventing Cruelty and Unsanitary Practices

The advisory further stipulates that no cruelty should be inflicted during the transportation of animals, and meat cannot be sold at unlicensed locations. Authorities have also been instructed to ensure that blood and animal remains are not dumped in drains, roads, or public sewage systems. To promote compliance, the Delhi government will launch awareness campaigns through posters and social media to educate the public about animal welfare rules and civic responsibilities ahead of Bakrid.
