Water Supply Disruption in Delhi Due to Maintenance Work
Parts of the national capital will experience disrupted water supply for two days starting July 5, 2026, as the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant undergoes scheduled maintenance. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) issued an advisory informing residents about the temporary disruption.
Details of the Maintenance Work
The maintenance work at the Sonia Vihar plant, which supplies water to several areas in the Capital, is part of routine upkeep. The DJB stated that the plant will be shut for two days to carry out necessary repairs and upgrades. Affected areas include parts of south and east Delhi, as well as some central localities.
Impact on Residents
Residents in the affected zones are advised to store water in advance. The DJB has arranged for water tankers to be deployed in areas facing severe shortages. Officials urged people to use water judiciously during the disruption period. According to a DJB spokesperson, “The maintenance is essential to ensure long-term reliability of water supply. We apologize for the inconvenience and request cooperation from the public.”
Previous Disruptions
This is not the first time the Sonia Vihar plant has undergone maintenance. Similar disruptions occurred in March 2026, affecting water supply for a day. The plant, one of Delhi’s largest, treats water from the Yamuna River and supplies over 150 million gallons per day.
