Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora has formally addressed Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging immediate intervention to establish a pedestrian access route from Nepean Sea Road to the Coastal Road promenade. In a letter dated March 30, Deora, who chairs the Parliamentary Committee on Subordinate Legislation, forwarded a detailed representation from the South Mumbai Residents Association (SMRA). The document underscores the critical lack of direct pedestrian connectivity to the promenade, which has become a major hub for recreation and community activities in south Mumbai.
According to the SMRA, the nearest access point to the Coastal Road promenade is approximately 500 metres away, forcing residents—particularly senior citizens, women, and tourists—to take longer and more cumbersome routes. The absence of a pathway through an MSRDC plot adjacent to Embassy Apartments exacerbates these accessibility issues, prompting calls for a dedicated pedestrian corridor through this area.
