The district administration in Dhanbad has installed temporary shade nets at major traffic intersections and busy roads across the city to provide protection to commuters, pedestrians, and two-wheeler riders from direct heat while they wait at signals.
Initiative Launched by Deputy Commissioner
The initiative was launched under the direction of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Aditya Ranjan as temperatures have risen sharply. The administration stated that the primary objective is to offer immediate relief to people, especially two-wheeler riders and pedestrians, who face the greatest hardship during peak afternoon hours.
Concerns Over Rising Temperatures
Aditya Ranjan noted that the mercury has increased considerably in recent days, making it difficult for people to remain outdoors for long periods. “Those stopping at traffic signals are particularly vulnerable to heatstroke and dehydration,” he said.
The administration has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary afternoon travel, drink sufficient water before stepping out, and follow traffic rules while using the shelters. Residents and commuters have welcomed the move as a people-friendly measure.
Dhanbad continued to reel under intense heat on Sunday, with temperatures remaining unusually high at around 44 degrees Celsius.
