Panel on Demographic Changes Starts Work with Border Focus

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting with Ministry of Home Affairs officials to ensure smooth functioning of the High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes. The committee, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address on August 15, 2025, was formally constituted on May 26, 2026.

Committee Leadership and Scope

Headed by Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, the panel will examine demographic changes across the country, with special emphasis on border areas. The committee is also expected to visit major metropolitan cities and industrial towns to assess population trends and migration patterns.

First Meeting and Agenda

Its first meeting has already been held, and the agenda has been finalised. The MHA will provide logistical and administrative support for the committee's work.
