NHAI Announces Rs 75 Increase in FASTag Annual Pass Fee for 2026-27
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially revised the fee structure for the FASTag Annual Pass, setting the new price at Rs 3,075 for the upcoming financial year 2026–27. This represents an increase of Rs 75 from the current rate of Rs 3,000, with the revised charges taking effect from April 1, 2026.
Regulatory Framework and Implementation
According to NHAI officials, this fee adjustment has been implemented in strict accordance with the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. These regulations govern all toll charges levied on national highways and expressways across India, ensuring that any revisions are legally compliant and transparent.
The authority emphasized that the update follows standard procedural protocols for periodic review of service fees, aimed at maintaining infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Popularity and Adoption of the FASTag Annual Pass
Introduced on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass was designed to provide significant financial relief to frequent highway users by eliminating the need for repeated toll payments. Since its launch, the facility has gained substantial traction among private vehicle owners nationwide.
NHAI data reveals that more than 56 lakh users have already opted for the annual pass, demonstrating its widespread acceptance and utility. The pass is specifically tailored for eligible non-commercial vehicles equipped with a valid FASTag, covering approximately 1,150 fee plazas across National Highways and National Expressways.
Key Features and Benefits of the Pass
The FASTag Annual Pass offers several advantages for motorists:
- One-Time Payment: Users make a single annual payment instead of frequently recharging their FASTag accounts.
- Validity Period: The pass remains active for one full year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever milestone is achieved first.
- Convenience: It simplifies toll management and reduces transaction hassles during travel.
Purchase and Activation Process
Motorists can easily acquire the FASTag Annual Pass through digital platforms:
- Online Purchase: Available via the official Rajmarg Yatra App or the NHAI website.
- Seamless Activation: Once payment is completed, the pass is automatically activated on the existing FASTag linked to the vehicle, typically within two hours.
Background on FASTag Technology
FASTag is an RFID-based electronic toll collection system that enables automatic deduction of toll fees from a user’s linked prepaid wallet or bank account. This technology has been instrumental in:
- Reducing Congestion: Minimizing queues and delays at toll plazas.
- Enhancing Efficiency: Facilitating faster, contactless toll transactions.
- Promoting Digital Payments: Encouraging cashless transactions across India’s extensive highway network.
The widespread adoption of FASTag has transformed toll collection processes, making highway travel smoother and more efficient for millions of commuters.
